“The Glass Ceiling” Board Game Shows Little Girls Just What To Expect In The Real World

Posted on April 13, 2016April 13, 2016 by priscilla.blossom@gmail.com

I’m a huge fan of board games. I still have my original Guess Who?, Monopoly, and Clue in my garage, though I woefully am unsure of what happened to my Ask Zandar. So when I saw this video about a new board game that’s meant to piss off little girls, I was, well, curious. Presenting, The Glass Ceiling!

Okay, so it’s not an actual board game, but it kinda should be. Written by Twitter friend Jessica Blackwell, The Glass Ceiling is more akin to the game of Life, where a roll of the die might get you a college degree or a flat tire. Except in this game, girls start climbing the ladder of success only to inevitably get faced with unfortunate situations like sexual harassment (are you the type to go to HR or are you just gonna say fuck it and well…you know the rest?)

It’s a hilarious parody of an unfortunate and very real problem that many of us women (and other minorities) face. Seriously, if you’ve never heard of the glass ceiling effect, here’s a little Wikiknowledge for you. Read it and weep (no, really. Cause this shit sucks). And for the (white, upper-class) boys, there’s a separate game called Privilege–and you can imagine how that one goes. No barriers to entry there, folks.

Watch the video below:

I bet Zandar never saw these kinds of questions coming.

This is sad but it probably should be a game to help them prepare for the battles they will face. :/

Haha well I mean it isn’t real (well the glass ceiling is, game isn’t) but yeah, girls need to be told sooner wtf kind of messed up things they’re going to face eventually, and then be given the tools to work against it.
